Live and In-Game Betting
Betting doesn't stop at first pitch anymore. Here's how in-game prices work, and why they deserve more caution than a pre-game line, not less.

Live betting means wagering after the game has already started, with the price updating continuously as it happens. It carries a wider built-in cut than pre-game lines because the book has to reprice on the fly, and it's one of the easiest ways to bet emotionally instead of on a real edge.
The odds update while the game is happening
Live betting, also called in-game betting, lets you bet after first pitch, with the moneyline, spread, and total all repricing continuously based on the score, base-runners, pitch count, whatever's relevant in the moment. A team down 3 runs in the 7th sees its moneyline drift out; a team that just loaded the bases sees its total tick up.
Why the cut is wider live than pre-game
A pre-game line has hours, sometimes days, for money and information to sharpen it. A live price gets set and re-set by an automated model in real time, with far less certainty and far less time to correct a mistake. Books protect themselves for that uncertainty by building in a bigger cut on live markets than they do on the equivalent pre-game one.
The bet-slip lag problem
There's a real gap between something happening on the field and the book's system reflecting it. A well-timed bet placed in that gap can catch a price that's already stale. Books know this too, which is exactly why they suspend betting around key moments, a pitch in flight, a replay review, rather than leave a window open to be picked off.
Why this is where emotional betting shows up the most
It's a lot easier to place a reactive bet in the heat of the moment than to sit on a pre-game position for three hours. A bad beat becomes an instant "get it back" live bet. Where it fits in a real approach
Live markets aren't off-limits, but they're a genuinely harder place to find a real edge, less time to evaluate, wider prices, more emotional pull.
